HECO seeks energy suppliers

Hawaiian Electric Co. is looking for developers interested in supplying renewable energy to its power grid on O'ahu.
The local utility recently issued a request for proposals asking bidders to provide up to 100 megawatts of renewable energy.
The additional power will be in addition to HECO's existing renewable energy sources, which include the H-POWER waste-to-energy plant and the soon-to-be completed Campbell Industrial Park plant, which provide 110 megawatts of power and will run on renewable biodiesel fuel.
PUBLIC RELATIONS AWARDS ARE JULY 17
The local chapter of the Public Relations Society of America will present its annual Koa Anvil and Koa Hammer Awards July 17.
The Koa Anvil awards recognize the top-rated public relations programs, while the Koa Hammer awards are given for public relations tools, such as annual reports, brochures, news releases and press kits. Individual practitioner awards will also be presented.
The awards dinner at the Halekulani Ballroom starts at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception. Tickets are $60 for PRSA members, $70 for nonmembers, and $45 for students. The deadline for reservations is July 11. For more information, call 533-4165.
GRACE PACIFIC CHIEF STEPPING DOWN
Grace Pacific Corp. President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Wilkinson will retire Sept. 30 after seven years with the company.
Replacing him as CEO will be David Hulihee, chairman of Grace Pacific's board of directors and president of Royal Contracting, the company said in a news release.
"My tenure with Grace has been the highlight of my 45-year career, made possible by the finest support given any president and CEO by the company's dedicated employees, active management team and visionary board of directors," said Wilkinson, who has been with the company since 2001.
The board of directors named Hulihee CEO, effective immediately. Wilkinson will continue to serve as the company's president until his official retirement in September.
One of Hawai'i's largest locally owned construction companies and its largest asphalt paving contractor, Kapolei-based Grace Pacific has roughly 550 employees and an 88-year history of serving Hawai'i.
HOUSEKEEPERS GIVE TO COMMUNITY
The local chapter of the International Executive Housekeepers Association has undertaken several community projects this month.
On Friday, the association held its biannual linen drive on behalf of various nonprofits. The group collected donations from association members and delivered them to organizations in need, including Next Step Shelter, Goodwill and Habilitat. Donated items included soap, linens, clothing, hotel amenities, pillows and blankets.
Member companies making donations included ABC Corp., Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki, CPF Distributors, PaperSource Hawaii, Outrigger Waikiki, Outrigger Reef, ALSCO, Hyatt Regency Waikiki, ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Tower and OHANA Waikiki Malia.
On June 14, 10 members from the association gathered at the 100th Infantry Battalion Memorial Building to offer volunteer cleanup services. The members cleaned the main hall, lounge and bathrooms, spending approximately three hours volunteering their time.
