HAWAI'I KAI
Board meeting to discuss pets on lighthouse trail

The Hawai'i Kai Neighborhood Board will take up the issue of pets on Makapu'u Lighthouse trail and has invited public testimony on a proposed zip line cable ride from Koko Crater summit at its monthly meeting tonight.

Some pet owners were upset when the state posted signs at the start of the Makapu'u Lighthouse trail in May saying the route was off-limits to animals.

The state cited complaints about dog feces on the trail, among other concerns. Officials from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources have said they will review the ban and will be on hand to answer questions from the community this evening.

The zip line issue is not on the agenda, so the board cannot take action on it. But the public is invited to comment on the ride, which was proposed last week by Alt-E Ventures as a way to generate revenue to keep the Koko Crater tramway open to hikers.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the Haha'ione Elementary School cafeteria, 595 Pepe'ekeo St.
