Former Islanders GM dies

Conrad Passas Sr., a longtime baseball volunteer and former general manager of the Hawai'i Islanders, died Wednesday. He was 70.
Passas was a longtime youth coach for the Mo'ili'ili Vikings program and also coached the JV team at Saint Louis School. He also became president of the Aikane Foundation, a program for youth baseball at Palama Settlement.
Passas helped start the Islanders' booster club with Ben Yee in the 1970s and became the team's promotional manager before being promoted to general manager.
In 2005, Passas was presented with the Chuck Leahey Award for outstanding service to baseball in Hawai'i.
Passas is survived by wife Anna, sons Conrad Jr. and Vince, and daughter Theresa Pheobus.
A mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. July 12 at Star of the Sea Church, with viewing from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

COPELAND WINS HAWAIIAN ISLANDS TITLE
Brian Copeland captured the Open Division title for the second time at the 30th Hawaiian Islands Bodybuilding & Figures Championship last night at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.
Copeland qualifies for national level competition that will be expense-paid by the promoters of last night's event.
Copeland won the heavyweight division (over 198 1/4 pounds). Other winners:
