Ala Moana Center said 17 retailers will open with a Nordstrom department store on March 7 in the mall's new mauka wing, and announced the names of seven more tenants in the 30-store project.
Among the latest group of stores to sign leases in the mall expansion wing are several opening their first Hawai'i locations, including the disc jockey-staffed urban boutique Metropark, luxury hosiery seller Wolford and international clothing and accessories retailer Club Monaco.
Anteprima Plastiq, Brighton Collectibles, Origins and True Religion Brand Jeans were also among yesterday's round of new tenant announcements.
The seven stores are scheduled to open in the spring and summer, except for Wolford, which is among a larger group of previously announced tenants opening with Nordstrom on Friday.
"We couldn't think of a better time to enter the Hawai'i market, with the kind of co-tenancy we get with Nordstrom," said Krishna Chatterjee, Honolulu community coordinator for Lululemon Athletica, a yoga-inspired fitness apparel store opening Friday.
The new mauka, or Nordstrom wing, represents the fifth major expansion of the state's largest shopping center, and was constructed to connect the three-story Nordstrom store fronting Kapi'olani Boulevard with the mall over Kona Street.
The nearly complete wing is a two-level concourse where the upper level will connect the mall's third level with Nordstrom's third floor. The lower concourse will connect the mall's main level with Nordstrom's second floor.
The expansion, including Nordstrom's 210,000-square-foot store and a few retailers relocating from other parts of the mall, is adding about 300,000 square square feet of retail space to Ala Moana, making it 2.1 million square feet with about 290 tenants.
Other parts of the expansion are an 800-stall parking structure connected to Nordstrom, and 25,000 square feet of retail along Kapi'olani fronting the parking structure for up to five other retailers, including Vitamin Shoppe.
Mall owner General Growth Properties is still negotiating to lease a few more spaces in the project not yet filled. Mall spokesman Matt Derby said some possible users in the Kapi'olani space could be a restaurant or convenience store. Two prospective tenants have yet to finalize leases for space on the second-level concourse.
