Baptist World panel to meet

The Baptist World Alliance's executive committee is meeting here next week in preparation for the Baptist World Congress 2010.

Nearly 70 denominational leaders from six continents will gather in Honolulu for the March 2-5 annual meeting. The 2010 Baptist World Congress at the Hawai'i Convention Center is expected to draw more than 13,000 delegates from more than 120 nations.

The executive committee will celebrate with a "Hear The Spirit!" Ho'olaulea tomorrow at Hawai'i Baptist Academy.

Also, the Rev. Dr. Solomon Ishola of Ibadan, Nigeria, will speak at Central Baptist Church's 10:45 a.m. worship service tomorrow. Ishola is general secretary of the 3 million-member Nigerian Baptist Convention.

CONGREGATIONAL CHOIR TO PERFORM

The Nuuanu Congregational Church Chancel Choir will present "No Wonder We Call Him Our Savior" at 9 a.m. March 16 at the church.

The presentation, written by Dave Clark and Russell Mauldin, is under the direction of Russell Ishida and will be narrated by Judy Stucke. Featured soloists are Ray Miyamoto and Paula Yamamoto.

MUSIC DUO AT UNITY CHURCH

The music duo Devotion, from Colorado, will be performing tomorrow at Unity Church of Hawaii's services and in concert that night. Services are at 7:30, 9 and 11 a.m. and the free concert will be at 7 p.m.

Unity Church of Hawaii is at 3608 Diamond Head Circle. Devotion is made up of Robert Anderson and Lori Sandstrom, who have released "We Are Healing and Intention," and "Do All You Can." Information: 735-4436 or www.unityhawaii.org.

CONCERT BENEFITS DRUG PROGRAM

Calvary Chapel will host a benefit concert with 7 Simple Pieces and other bands at 6:30 p.m. March 8 at the 'Aiea sanctuary, 98-1016 Komo Mai Drive.

The free concert will be taking donations for U-Turn for Christ Kauai, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program.

RABBI TO TALK ON DIFFERENT FAITHS

Rabbi Peter Schaktman will discuss "Reflections of a Jew and a Zionist Navigating Hawai'i's Interfaith Waters" at the Interfaith Open Tablem 7 a.m. Wednesday at First Unitarian Church, 2500 Pali Highway.

Schaktman came to Honolulu in September 2005. He spent two years living in an Israeli Arab village as a community worker in Arab-Jewish relations and nine years working on the staff of the Union for Reform Judaism at their headquarters in Manhattan as a regional and national consultant in program development, synagogue management and the special needs of small congregations.

After the talk will be a discussion led by the Rev. John Heidel and Schaktman.
