In the match of the night, complete with two long delays, Higa scored a takedown and three near-fall points midway through the third round to take a 16-12 advantage. Diamond scored an immediate reversal to get within 16-14, and following an escape by Higa, Diamond's takedown in the closing seconds got him within 17-16. Diamond was on top with two seconds left, but Higa held on for the victory. The match was nearly stopped with 31 seconds left in the second when Higa needed a third injury timeout. Higa led 11-9 at the time. The referees got together and decided to continue the match. Diamond scored a takedown to tie it with 13 seconds left in the period. There was another delay five seconds into the third period after an escape by Diamond was finally awarded after a meeting of referees and official scorers.

Nishigaya then tied it at 4-4 with an escape with 35 seconds left in the period. Chow went up, 5-4, on an escape with 1:43 remaining in the match, then scored a takedown seven seconds later to go up, 7-4. Nishigaya closed it to 7-5 on an escape with 1:15 left, but Chow gained a point when Nishigaya was called for stalling with 31 seconds remaining and held on for the victory.

Schaefer also appeared to have a takedown with 30 seconds left in the period, but the referees talked it over and disallowed it because the wrestlers were out of bounds.
