Speedskating: Ohno DQs in 1,500 meters at worlds

SEOUL, South Korea — Song Kyung-taek won the 1,500 meters today ahead of Apolo Anton Ohno, who was disqualified for pushing in the race on the first day of the World Short Track Speedskating Championships.

Song delighted the home crowd at Gangneung by finishing in 2 minutes, 16.77 seconds and filling the void left by South Korea's injured Olympic champion Ahn Hyun-soo.

Ohno, the United States' two-time Olympic gold medalist, was disqualified for pushing Lee Seung-hoon on the penultimate bend.

South Korea's Lee Ho-suk took silver with 2:17.347, ahead of Charles Ryan Leveille of the United States in third.

China's Wang Meng collected the women's gold with a time of 2:22.819, ahead of South Korea's Yang Shin-young and China's Zhou Yang.

There were 238 athletes from 32 countries gathered in the eastern coastal city in the final International Skating Union short-track competition of the 2007-08 season.
