Seriously stinky clothes call for ... a cup of soda. Not to drink, but to launder with. So says a mom whose screen name is sweetami. Here's her Mom-Tested Tip, which she submitted via Hawaii Moms.com for our weekly series: "If you have really smelly, smelly clothes, put some 7Up (or Sprite) or even Coke into the washer with the clothes and run the normal cycle. I learned this when my husband was in the Navy. Their submarines have this funky smell, and ... this smell doesn't come out with regular detergent and fabric softener, too. (So) this really works!"

LOTS OF BENEFITS, LITTLE RISK OF INJURY
Starting an exercise program can be difficult. But walking is an excellent way to feel great and get a variety of health benefits with a low risk of injury. Regular walking reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, colon cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure. It also helps control weight, contributes to building healthy bones, muscles and joints, and reduces feelings of stress.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourages 30 minutes a day of walking, among other activities, to achieve recommended amounts of physical activity. For more tips on walking, see www.healthyhawaii.com.

FINAL WORD
"It would be so great if every single person just got together and did little things to fix the world. ... It's so simple. Like registering to vote."
