Services set for slack-key master Raymond Kane

A celebration of life service with military honors for Hawai'i slack-key master Uncle Raymond Kaleoalohapoinaohelemanu Kane will be held 6 p.m. Thursday at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary. Friends, family and fans may pay their respects from 1 to 9 p.m. A second visitation will take place 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Cremation will follow. His ashes will be scattered at noon next Sunday off Zablan Beach in Nanakuli. Flowers are welcome and aloha attire is requested.

Kane, who became a cultural ambassador, died Feb. 27 at the age of 82, just days after the death of his cousin, Hawaiian music icon Aunty Genoa Keawe. He is survived by his wife, Elodia; children, Dennis and Michael Kane, Joann Kailiwa'i, Raynette "Moana" Kane-Arakaki and Faith Estores; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Aileen Perry; brothers, Abraham and Kenneth Panoke.
