Statistics can't do justice to the top boys players in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu this season.

'Iolani senior midfielder Kevin Fung was named the ILH Offensive Player of the Year and Kamehameha junior defender Kainoa Kahui the Defensive Player of the Year, selected by the league's coaches.

Fung, a second-team ILH all-star last year, scored six goals but might have been known more for his ability to set up his teammates.

"He's very unselfish and thinks of his team first," 'Iolani coach Chris Lee said. "He's what you expect of a center midfielder: excellent vision, great shot."

But Fung's assist potential wasn't his only strength.

"I don't think there are many players who can hit a ball like Kevin can," Lee said.

Kahui was known for his prowess in the air and his physical play, which helped the Warriors hold opponents to nine goals in 12 games.

"(Punahou coach) Dave Trifonovich and I were talking about how you want to stay away from him," Lee said. "That's the type of impact he has; teams try not to go into his area."

Lee was named the Coach of the Year after leading the Raiders to the ILH title.

Midfielder Brock Granger, forward Blaine Gonsalves, defender Hiroshi Metzker and goalkeeper Christopher Otani join Fung as the Raiders on the first team.

Forward Kimo Komomua, who tied for the league lead in scoring with 12 goals, and midfielder Zane Dydasco are the other Warriors on the first team.

Punahou placed two on the first team: midfielder John Cowen and defender Michael Busto.

Pac-Five forward Christian Bradley rounds out the first team after tying Komomua for the ILH lead in goals.

Granger, Komomua and Kahui are all repeat first-team members.
