Leeward Habitat meeting draws over 200 families

Over 200 families packed Kamehameha Schools Community Learning Center in Nanakuli Monday to apply for the opportunity to build a home with Habitat for Humanity Leeward O'ahu, the nonprofit organization said today in a news release.
Monday's meeting was the first of three scheduled in the selection process for families to build their own home in Leeward Habitat's 31-home Kaukamana Hale subdivision.
Two more meetings are available to families wanting to apply for the project. Application forms are only available at the meetings: Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon, at Wai'anae District Park's multi-purpose room, 85-601 Farrington Highway., and March 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kamehameha Schools Community Learning Center, 89-101 Farrington Highway.
Leeward Habitat partners with low-income families ready for the responsibility and challenges of homeownership but would not qualify for a traditional mortgage. More information is available at www.leewardhabitat.org or 808-696-7882.
