'Iolani School alum Derrick Low and the Washington State Cougars will play Winthrop Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championships' East Regional at Denver.

Washington State is 24-8. Winthrop is 22-11.

A year after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Low, a senior guard, and the Cougars were selected as the No. 4 seed in the East Region today.

The winner of the WSU- Winthrop game will play the winner of the No. 5 Notre Dame-No. 12 George Mason game on Saturday.
