Shaun Castro's 'Love Movement'
Advertiser Staff
Profound feeling motivates artist Shaun Castro. "We live in a kind of world that uses the word love and lust interchangeably, but my show is not dealing with the physical union of individuals, but the deeper level of what it means to love — manifesting itself in an outward action," he says. After graduating from Moanalua High, Castro attended Honolulu and Leeward community colleges; he earns his bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Hawai'i-Manoa this month, specializing in painting.
Castro is a Christian missionary, and has been collaborating on his art with Prototype, The Ground Up Pirates, Lightsleepers and Prolifik Projects. "Art is my means of expression, not my entire livelihood; there is a greater purpose for me," he says.
See Shaun Castro's "Love Movement" installation until May 26 at Prototype-Pearlridge Center.

MORE THAN A ZOO IN HONOLULU
In 2001, Aaron Yoshino, right, began Honozooloo as a freelance design and photography business. He didn't expect his Web site to become one of Honolulu's most popular nightlife blogs — but it did. "It was mostly an easy way to keep a working portfolio for myself," says Yoshino. "I started shooting a lot of events that I regularly attend, and before I knew it, Honozooloo ended up becoming this visual archive of some of the best events in town."
His professional eye captures artistic nightlife scenes, with emphasis on lights, movement, and creating a visual sound. www.Honozooloo.com is more than your average blog.
"I see it as a cause that I try to advocate through my photographs. In a small way it's like I contribute to the community," Yoshino says. To see more of Honolulu's nightlife, visit www.honozooloo.com.

'DAGGERS, BOLTS & FUR' THROUGH JUNE 1
At Exclusive Boutique, you find more than just clothes — the store has been holding a series of art shows. From 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, the boutique is hosting a reception for "Daggers, Bolts & Fur," an installation by artists Angry Woebots, 2H, and Phoneticontrol, all part of the art collective Pocket Full of Monsters. They'll show stylized street art juxtaposed with multiple media, including painting, graffiti, stencils and drawings.
Aaron Martin, the creator of Angry Woebots (www.armyofsnipers.com), was born on O'ahu, had his first art show in 2002 and has done shows in the Islands, up and down California, on the East Coast and in China. (He also sews costumes and stuffed animals, sculpts and dabbles in graphic design.) "Angry Woebots was never a name; it was a concept," Martin said, "taking something from my dark space and flipping it into something positive." 2H (an alias; he repurposed the name from his brother's graffiti crew back in high school) incorporates street art, live painting and commercial influences, drawn from his urban youth in Seattle. Phoneticontrol (aka Eric John William Broers; www.phoneticontrol.com) is a San Francisco-based artist curator, muralist and clothing designer.
The show will be up through June 1. Exclusive, 1311 Kapi'olani Blvd. Suite 104, in the Hawaiian Life Building; 593-9699, www.exclusive-hawaii.com.
