'Iolani School and Hawaii Baptist Academy were the first-place winners yesterday in the annual state Math Bowl Championships.

'Iolani took first place in the large-school division, finishing ahead of Roosevelt and McKinley high schools. Hawaii Baptist finished first in the small-schools division, topping Maryknoll School and Hanalani Schools.

The annual competition, held this year at Brigham Young University-Hawai'i, promotes the teaching and learning of mathematics by having students solve challenging problems in a competitive environment.
