Pac-Five rallies past Kaua'i for state Division I softball title

Advertiser Staff

Britney Hagihara singled in the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as Pac-Five beat Kaua'i, 4-2, in the final of the DataHouse/HHSAA Softball Division II Championships today at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

It was Pac-Five's second DII state championship in three years. The Interscholastic League of Honolulu has won all five state DII titles.

With the score tied at 2-2 and two runners in scoring position, Hagihara blooped one just beyond the reach of the shortstop and into left field. Samantha Ford and Angie Yoshizu scored on the play.

Pac-Five (10-8) tied the score earlier in the inning on Yoshizu's double, which scored Keline Yoshimura.

Wolf Pack sophomore right-hander Sheridan Mahelona allowed two unearned runs and nine hits in a complete-game performance.

Wailana Borrero, a junior right-hander, pitched a seven-hitter for Kaua'i (13-2), the Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation champion and No. 1 seed.
