TONIGHT'S MUST-SEES

"Left for Dead," 6 p.m., National Geographic Channel. On the Internet, a teen saw a report that his dad wasn't dead after all. The family had just learned Lincoln Hall had died on Mount Everest. Then, somehow, he woke up. A delusional Hall removed outerwear and told a climber, "I imagine you're surprised to see me here." It's an amazing story that happened in 2006. Now it's beautifully retold.

"American Idol," 7 p.m., Fox. Here's the showdown "Idol" has been building to: Two Davids — immensely talented, but extremely different — collide. David Archuleta, 17, has a sweet little face and personality. He's the sort who is hugged by teens and their parents; he also has a strong, grown-up voice. David Cook, 25, has rock-band experience and powerhouse presentation. He can turn a song into a 90-second epic. Tomorrow, we'll learn who is the champion.

OF NOTE

"Not Going Out" debut, 2:40 p.m., BBC America/KHON, digital 341. Lee (played by British actor Lee Mack) drifts lazily through life. Much more interesting in this comedy is his roommate Kate (played by California-born Megan Dodds) an American who takes life too seriously. Tonight's best moments have her loosening up at clown school.

"NCIS," 7 p.m., CBS. Tony and Ziva are assigned to protect their boss, Jenny Shepherd, when she goes to the funeral of a retired agent. His death was ruled a suicide, but she soon learns otherwise.

"Dancing With the Stars" finale, 8 p.m., ABC. Kristi Yamaguchi, Jason Taylor or Cristian de la Fuente will be named the champion.

"Nova: Lord of the Ants," 8 p.m., PBS. The folksy personality of E.O. Wilson belies the fact that he has received two Pulitzer Prizes, plus criticism for his theories on the influence of genes on human behavior. This hour starts slowly, then catches on.

"Hell's Kitchen," 8:02 p.m., Fox. Here's general havoc. One chef must switch teams. One needs a medic. And each team must use all 20 ingredients.

"Shark," 9 p.m., CBS. This show won't be back in the fall, so here's a series finale. An escaped con (Billy Campbell) plans to get revenge on Stark by killing his daughter.
