Hawaii golfers finish in top 10 in international junior event

Hawai'i golfers Chan Kim and Stephanie Kono both finished in the top 10 today at the Thunderbird International Junior.
Kim, a former Kaimuki High School student and Hawai'i state high school champion, shot a closing round 4-under-par 68 to finish tied for second.
Kono, a Punahou School senior who entered the day tied for second, shot a 5-over 77 to finish tied for ninth.
The event, which features 12- to 18-year-olds from 17 states and 11 countries, was played in Scottsdale, Ariz. The 48 boys and 30 girls played at the Grayhawk Golf Club with the par-72 course measuring 7,112 yards for boys and 6,275 for girls.
Kim, who moved to Chandler, Ariz., after his junior year last year, finished a shot behind winner Hyun Seok Lim of Fullerton, Calif.
Kim (69-73-68�210) and Lim (73-69-67�209) were tied for seventh entering the day.
William Kroop of Edmond, Okla., entered the day with a two-shot lead. He shot even-par 72 Monday and finished tied for second at 68-70-72�210.
Jessica Wallace of Langley, British Columbia, who entered the day tied for fourth at four shots back after successive rounds of 73, fired a 5-under 67 today to win the girls title.
She finished 3-under overall, the only girl to finish under par.
Second-round leader Tiffany Lua of Rowland Heights, Calif., shot 3-over 75 to finish second.
Lua entered the final day with a three-shot lead after shooting 72-70 (2-under) the first two days.
