Soccer: Ching scores in Houston victory

Associated Press

HOUSTON — Brian Ching, a Kamehameha Schools alum, scored his third goal of the season in the 68th minute, Tony Caig made three saves to earn his first career MLS shutout, and the Houston Dynamo beat the New York Red Bulls 1-0 tonight.

New York (3-3-3, 9 points) has lost two in a row after a five-game unbeaten streak. The Red Bulls had two chances to tie late, but Danleigh Borman's shot in the 89th minute went wide left, and Chris Leitch's header in the 93rd minute went high.

Houston (3-3-5, 14) has rebounded from an 0-2-3 start to go 3-1-2 in its last six games. The Dynamo played without goalkeeper Pat Onstad and midfielder Dwayne De Rosario, who were playing with Canada against Brazil in a friendly tonight.

The Red Bulls played without Juan Pablo Angel, who was ill and didn't make the trip to Houston. In the 44th minute, Luke Sassano was replaced after injuring his left toe.
