20-year-old indicted for shooting that left man paralyzed

Nicholas Nichols, 20, was indicted today on a charge of attempted murder in the August 11 Aliamanu home invasion shooting that left a 19-year-old victim paralyzed from the waist down.

Also indicted in the case were brothers Kevin Khamsouk, 20, and Kerry Khamsouk, 18.

Kerry Khamsouk was a 17-year-old juvenile at the time of the crime but Family Court waived jurisdiction in his case last week, allowing him to be tried as an adult.

The new indictment consolidates previous charges against adult defendants in the case and for the first time identified Nicholas as the alleged shooter of victim Timothy Lapitan.

At the request of Deputy Prosecutor Vickie Kapp, Circuit Judge Derrick Chan ordered Nichols held on $500,000 bail.

In addition to the attempted murder count, Nichols is also charged with multiple firearms offenses, robbery, kidnapping and burglary.

Kapp said Nichols is already awaiting trial in Circuit Court on unrelated felony assault charges.

Kevin Khamsouk, who is also known as "Rambo," was indicted on robbery, kidnaping, burglary and firearms charges. His bail is set at $250,000.

Kerry Khamsouk was charged with the same offenses as his brother and bail was set at $200,000.

Two other juvenile suspects have also been arrested in the case but are the subjects of confidential Family Court proceedings.

Kapp said the three men indicted today were "all wearing black" and "carrying guns" when they burst into a Hulaku'i Drive home and held Lapitan and two women at gunpoint.

Lapitan was "shot by suspect Nichols and is now paralyzed from the waist down," said Kapp.
