The Hawai'i State Judiciary will present a free program, "Divorce Law in Hawai'i," from noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 13 in the Supreme Court courtroom on the second floor of Ali'iolani Hale, 417 S. King St.

Attorney William C. Darrah will provide an overview of Hawai'i law as it relates to custody and visitation, division of property and debt, child support, alimony and other divorce issues.

He also will talk about the legal process of divorce and the resources available to someone going through a divorce here.

MAUI WASTEWATER TOPIC OF HEARING

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will conduct a public hearing tonight on its proposed renewal of Maui County's Lahaina underground injection control wastewater permit.

The event will be from 6:15 to 9 p.m. at the Lahaina Civic Center.

The proposed permit renewal would allow the county to operate four injection wells at the Lahaina Wastewater Reclamation Facility. The facility recycles about 1 million gallons per day of treated wastewater and sends it for reuse by the Ka'anapali golf course, Maui Land & Pineapple Co. and construction contractors.

Most of the treated wastewater is disposed of on-site in four gravity-fed injection wells at an average rate of 3 million to 5 million gallons per day. The injection wells range in depth from 180 to 255 feet and are 1,500 to 1,900 feet from the shoreline of West Maui at an elevation of about 30 feet.

There are public and private drinking water wells on the mountain slopes above the plant, with the nearest well about 2.4 miles away at elevations of about 900 feet.
