Damien bounces back to beat Word of Life, 19-14

Damien rallied then held off Word of Life Academy, 19-14, in the season finale for both teams at Aloha Stadium last night.
The Monarchs finished their season 7-5 overall and 4-5 in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II. The Firebrands ended their inaugural varsity season at 2-10 and 0-9.
Word of Life took an early lead when Ryan Garo returned a fumble 25 yards for a touchdown, but Damien scored the next 19 points to take the lead for good.
Jeremiah Matautia's 2-yard run capped a 14-play, 74-yard drive that tied the score. The Monarchs moved ahead 13-7 just before halftime on an 8-yard scoring pass from Stanton Pilialoha to Iokepa Bahilot.
Pilialoha threw a 5-yard scoring pass to Makana Ka'anoi in the fourth quarter to make it 19-7.
The Firebrands added a late score on a 4-yard run by Gabe Miller.
Damien's Josh Asuncion led all rushers with 140 yards on 13 carries.
