GOING VEGAS
Aliante Station opening Tuesday

By Anthony Curtis

Aliante Station will open its doors on Tuesday at 11:11 p.m. The $662 million casino is at Aliante Parkway and 215, way up in the northeast corner of the valley. It has 202 rooms (including nine suites), an 80,000-square-foot casino, a 16-screen movie theater, a 600-seat showroom, and a full roster of restaurants, including a Feast buffet. The master plan calls for a second tower with an additional 202 rooms, but there are no timetables for the expansion. As is typical for new-casino openings, it will be preceded by a fireworks display, so look to the northwest after the sun goes down if you're in town.

ENCORE SCHEDULE: A week after opening its reservations lines for 2009, Steve Wynn's new Encore resort is accepting reservations from Dec. 22, onward.

ANGEL FALLING: Reviews following the official opening of "Criss Angel: Believe" at Luxor have been tough on the show. Criticism runs the gamut from too little magic to too little Angel and too much Cirque. The show's producers respond that tweaking is in progress.

CHER RETURNING: Cher will indeed return to Caesars Palace next year. After canceling the balance of her 2008 dates, 35 new dates have been announced for 2009, between Feb. 21 and May 25.

DONNY & MARIE EXTENDING: The Osmond duo will extend their engagement at the Flamingo until Oct. 15, 2010, turning what was to have been a six-month engagement into a nearly two-year stint. The Osmonds will be (slightly) reducing their workload, jettisoning Saturday matinees and playing five shows a week instead of their previous six.

Q. The football-contest carryover you've written about was hit. What are the details?

A. After seven weeks of carryovers, a 59-year-old retired man submitted a perfect 14-0 card in the Lucky's NFL contest, to win $48,000. The prize has reverted to $6,000, and it's free to take your shot at Terrible's off the Strip or the Plaza downtown.
