High surf advisory issued for north, west shores

A high surf advisory was issued by the National Weather Service at 12 a.m. this morning for the north-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and Maui.
The advisory also pertains to west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai.
A large, northwest swell produced by a storm system far northwest of the islands has reached portions of the Hawaiian chain generating surf exceeding the advisory level, weather officials said.
The high surf is expected to peak later this morning.
Surf along north-facing shores is expected to build to 14 to 18 feet, with locally higher sets of up to 22 feet.
Surf along west-facing shores is expected to be 10 to 14 feet, today.
The high surf advisory will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Friday morning.
Elsewhere on Oahu, surf of 3 to 5 feet is expected along east-facing shores and 1 to 3 feet along south-facing shores.
