'A Piece of Cloth' will explore fabrics
Advertiser Staff
Learn about fabrics and discover their historical importance in rituals and legends at "A Piece of Cloth," a Temari-sponsored event, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Ward Centre and Ward Warehouse Amphitheater.
The event, with hands-on activities and demonstrations, is intended to shed light on fabric being more than a mere piece of cloth.
You can print with Hawaiian bamboo stamps at Ward Centre and don a kihei, a kapa (tapa) printed piece of ceremonial clothing stamped wit designs.
Discover, too, the versatility of furoshiki, the Japanese square cloth traditionally utilized as a "wrap" to transport boxes, bottles and other gifts, then reused again and again. But furoshiki today has emerged as part of the gift to the recipient.
Indonesian batik fabrics will also be displayed.
Admission is free.
