Testimony on selection of new police chief starts
The Big Island police commission will hear testimony starting today on the two candidates to replace retiring Police Chief Lawrence K. Mahuna.
The commission narrowed the field of candidates to Chadwick K. Fukui and Harry S. Kubojiri. Fukui is a retired Big Island police captain, and Kubojiri is currently the department's deputy chief.
The commission will accept public testimony on the selection at meetings at 5 p.m. today at the King Kamehameha Beach Hotel in Kona; at 5 p.m. Nov. 18 in the county's Aupuni Center conference room in Hilo; and at 2 p.m. Nov. 20 in the Waimea Center conference room.
