Classroom evening fire does $20,000 in damage
A fire that broke out at a portable classroom at Wilcox Elementary School on Tuesday evening was quickly extinguished by firefighters.
Eight firefighters and rescue specialists from the Lihu'e fire station responded to the 9:25 p.m. alarm and by 9:35 p.m. the fire was out.
No one was injured and no other structures were affected, although a nearby portable was just six feet away.
Damages to the 400-square-foot wooden structure and its contents are estimated at between $20,000 and $30,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
