Alonso's homer lifts Waikiki

Yonder Alonso homered on a full count with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Waikiki BeachBoys beat the North Shore Honu, 3-2, last night in Hawaii Winter Baseball at Hans L'Orange Park.
Alonso also hit an RBI double and Jeremy Papelbon pitched a perfect 10th for the BeachBoys (18-16).
Kyu Hyun Moon and Jordan Parraz homered for the Honu (14-19).
Earlier, Kyle Peter, Mark Hallberg and Adam Loewen each had three hits as the West Oahu CaneFires beat the Honolulu Sharks, 5-1.
Caleb Gindle and Tyler Henson added two hits apiece, and Mid-Pacific alum and former University of Hawai'i standout Matt Inouye had his first RBI of the season for the West Division champion CaneFires (18-14), who won their fifth in a row.
Starter Fumikazu Kimura earned the victory, working 5 2/3 innings and allowing a run on three hits while striking out four.
Michael Taylor drove in the run for the Sharks (16-17).
GOLF
UH FINISHES EIGHTH
The University of Hawai'i men's golf team shot a final-round 285 yesterday to finish in a tie for eighth at 2-over 866 in the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate Tournament at the resort's Fazio Golf Course.
Texas shot 273 to win the 19-team event with 21-under 843. San Diego State finished second with 278—846.
Senior Robert Berton led the Warriors, shooting a final-round 5-under 67 to tie for sixth at 6-under 210. UH freshman TJ Kua, who shared the second-round lead, shot 75—212 to tie for 14th.
Ohio State's Vaughn Snyder shot 67—205 to win by one stroke over Texas-Arlington's Bobby Massa, who closed with a 62.
TENNIS
LAJOLA WINS OPENER
Defending champion Dennis Lajola defeated Johannes Robert Van Overbeek, 7-5, 6-0, yesterday in a first-round match of the Honolulu Futures USTA Pro Circuit event at the Central O'ahu Regional Park Tennis Complex.
Lajola, a University of Hawai'i sophomore from 'Aiea, trailed 5-3 in the first set before seizing control and winning 10 games in a row.
Also yesterday, former Hawai'i Pacific standout Jan Tribler lost to Chase Buchanan, of New Albany, Ohio, 6-3, 6-4.
