'Iolani School senior Breland Almadova will follow his father's footsteps in University of Hawai'i athletics.

But unlike his father, Bryan Almadova, who played football at UH from 1980 to 1982, Breland said he will sign to play baseball.

The early signing period for baseball began yesterday.

"I like that I'll be getting a chance to play right away, if I work hard," said Almadova, a defensive back on the Raiders football team.

Almadova, who is 6 feet 1 and 180 pounds, was an Advertiser All-State honorable mention outfielder last season.

Earlier, Kaua'i pitcher Trent Allianic, Pearl City third baseman Bryson Namba and Kamehameha shortstop Pi'ikea Kitamura each said they would sign with UH.

MCDANIEL TO AZTECS

Mid-Pacific left-handed pitcher Matt McDaniel, an Advertiser All-State second-team selection last season, signed with San Diego State yesterday.

The 6-3, 180-pound senior said he also was offered by UH.

"Anybody would like to play in front their family, but I wanted to go away," he said. "I just want to grow up."
