A number of lane closures are scheduled next week on Ala Moana Boulevard as part of improvements associated with the construction of The Grand Waikikian Tower, adjacent to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa, the state Department of Transportation said in a news release.
The road improvements will include pavement reconstruction and resurfacing, the addition of a fourth eastbound lane from Hobron Lane to Kalia Road, the lengthening of left-turn stacking lanes onto Hobron Lane and Kalia Road, center median landscaping enhancements designed in consultation with the Outdoor Circle, replacement of highway lighting with decorative lighting similar to Kalakaua Avenue, and the reconstruction of portions of pedestrian sidewalks and driveways.
The lane closures are:
Daytime (7 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
• Monday through Saturday, single-lane closures in both directions between Kalakaua Avenue and Holomoana Street for street light and traffic signal duct line installations and driveway, sidewalk and curb construction.
Nighttime (5 p.m. to 1 a.m.)
• Monday night through Tuesday morning, two-lane closure in the westbound direction from Kalia Road to Hobron Lane for paving work.
• Tuesday night through Friday morning two-lane closure in the eastbound direction from Hobron Lane to Kalia Road for paving work.
• Friday night through Saturday morning, multiple lane closures in all directions at the Ala Moana Boulevard and Kalia Road intersection for paving work.
These road improvements will be paid for by the Hilton Hotels Corp. as part of a larger development surrounding the construction of The Grand Waikikian Tower, the DOT said.
Hilton has also established a construction information hot line at 948-7600 and an informational Web site at www.villagerejuvenation.com. Project completion is anticipated in December.
Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time. Roadwork is weather-permitting.
