CBKB: Titans pull away, roll over Hawaii

Josh Akognon and Cal State Fullerton shot down the University of Hawaii
men's basketball team tonight.
Akognon made seven 3-pointers and scored 41 points to lead the Titans to a
90-76 victory over the Rainbow Warriors at the Stan Sheriff Center.
A crowd of 3,178 at the Stan Sheriff Center watched the 'Bows go 0-2 in the
season-opening Verizon Wireless Tip-Off Classic. Fullerton went 1-1 in the
four-team tournament.
Roderick Flemings led Hawaii with 21 points. Petras Balocka added 14
points, and Brandon Adams scored 13 for the 'Bows.
The game was close for the first 30 minutes, but the Titans pulled away in
the final 10 minutes.
The score was tied nine times in the first half, including 37-37 at
intermission.
Akognon was the catalyst for the Titans, scoring 20 points — including four
3-pointers — in the first half.
The Titans went on a 10-3 run early in the second half to take a 49-44 lead
with 15:22 remaining. They kept the lead the rest of the game.
San Francisco defeated Texas State, 88-74, in the first game to win the
tournament championship.
Hawaii is scheduled to play again tomorrow against Idaho State. The game is
scheduled to start at 11 p.m. because it will be televised live nationally
on ESPN.
