Mapu best in PacWest

Brigham Young-Hawai'i senior setter LeeAnn Mapu was named the Pacific West Conference Volleyball Player of the Year, the conference announced yesterday.
Seasider teammate Losaline Faka'osi was voted Freshman of the Year and Wilfred Navalta was named Coach of the Year after leading BYUH to the PacWest championship.
Hawai'i Pacific sophomore Tricia Yoshimura was chosen Libero of the Year.
Mapu earned her third straight All-PacWest first-team selection by averaging 10.28 assists per game.
Joining Mapu on the all-conference first team were senior middle blocker Faylynn Merrick of BYUH, sophomore middle hitter Kelly Balanay of Hawai'i Pacific, junior outside hitter Trina Kauliakamoa of Chaminade, and junior outside hitter Josimara Pinheiro and junior middle hitter Fabiane Seben, both from Hawai'i-Hilo.
Merrick averaged 1.02 blocks per game and hit .275 with 65 kills. Balanay repeated as a first-team selection after hitting for a .313 average with 257 kills and just 80 errors. Kauliakamoa amassed 313 kills, 26 service aces and 278 digs to earn first-team selection for the third year in a row. Pinheiro led the PacWest in kill average (3.83). Seben topped the PacWest in blocks per game (1.26), total blocks (132), block assists (119) and total service aces (50) to repeat as a first-team selection.
