Art calendar
FIRST FRIDAY
Dec. 5 is the first Friday of December and the last First Friday of 2008. If you're headed to the Honolulu Arts District with shopping on your mind, don't think that you need to spend $100-$100,000 to carry away a piece of art (although you can do that, too). Island Keepsakes has items for as low as $1.95. Bigger spenders — meaning those with at least $5 and some change — can shop at the Art Treasures and Pacific Traditions galleries, the Studio of Roy Venters, the Louis Pohl Gallery or Bonnie's closet. If your bills go into double digits, hit Into, Inc., which is advertising a 25 percent off sale, or the Kim Taylor Reece and Pegge Hopper galleries. Twenty bucks is enough for something retro at Area, which has more than mid-century and vintage furniture. Of course, all the other First Friday things are going on at participating Chinatown shops and restaurants, too, from 5-9 p.m. Information: 524-1160. Including:
• "ART CARDS TO OUR WARRIORS," a selection of art cards, stamps and addresses of our country's wounded service men and women, at a number of the participating galleries.
