Waikiki gets past North Shore, 3-1

Yuji Onizaki had went 2 for 3, and three different Waikiki players drove in a run as the Beach Boys beat the North Shore Honu, 3-1, last night in a Hawaii Winter League Baseball game at Hans L'Orange Park.
Damon Sublett, Todd Frazier and Tommy Giles each drove in runs for the Beach Boys (2-4).
Andrew Brackman (1-0) picked up the win for Waikiki, going five innings. He gave up three hits, no runs while striking out five and walking one.
Jeremy Papelbon pitched two innings to pick up his first save of the season. He gave up a hit and allowed one run (earned) while striking out three and walking one.
Matt McBride and Kenji Sato each had two hits for the Honu (1-4).
SHARKS VICTORIOUS
Bradley Emaus and Tony Cruz drove in two runs apiece as the Honolulu Sharks beat the West Oahu Cane Fires, 9-1, last night at Hans L'Orange Park.
The Sharks (4-1) banged out 12 hits, while three Honolulu pitchers combined to hold West Oahu (4-2) to four hits.
Nagai (1-0) earned the win, going five innings. He allowed two hits, no runs while striking out five and walking three.
Tyler Henson led the Cane Fires, going 2 for 3 and scoring the team's only run.
UH ALUMNI GAME SET
The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team will host the alumni game on Oct. 18, at 1 p.m., at Les Murakami Stadium. The game will be free to the public with fans invited to use the stadium's new seats in the lower level.
The alumni game, which was normally played right before the start of the regular season in the spring, has been moved to the fall to accommodate the shortened schedule mandated by the NCAA prior to the 2008 season.

VITALE LOSES TO TRIGG
Hawai'i fighter Falaniko Vitale lost by unanimous decision to Frank Trigg in the semi-main event of the Strikeforce organization's "Payback" mixed martial arts card last night at Broomfield, Colo.
Trigg, who is originally from New York but trains in Las Vegas, won all three judges' cards, 29-28, 29-28, 30-27.
There were no significant knockdowns in the bout.
Trigg improved to 18-6. Vitale dropped to 26-9.
Both fighters are former middleweight (185 pounds) champions in the Hawai'i-based Icon Sport organization.

BYUH TOPS UH-HILO
Losaline Faka'osi had a match-high 18 kills to lead Brigham Young-Hawai'i over UH-Hilo in five sets last night in a women's Pacific West Conference volleyball match in Hilo.
BYUH won 12-25, 25-18, 25-22, 18-25, 15-11 to improve to 7-5 overall and 4-0 in league.
Josimara Pinheiro led the Vulcans (13-5, 3-2) with 16 kills.
HPU is 4-10 overall and 1-3 in league, while Notre Dame de Namur is 1-19, 0-5.
Courtney Lorusso led Chaminade with 12 kills.
