The Hawai'i Army National Guard soldier who died earlier this week after training at Fort Hood, Texas, has been identified as Sgt. Julian Manglona, a Reservist from the 100th Battalion.

Manglona, who was assigned to the 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, died after completing a six-mile run about 7 p.m. Thursday at the North Fort Hood training area.

The combat team, headquartered at Kalaeloa, had been at the Central Texas Army facility to conduct mobilization training.

Fellow soldiers training with Manglona performed CPR and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. He was taken to Coryell County Memorial Hospital in Gatesville, Texas, where he was pronounced dead.

The official cause of his death is unknown at this time, U.S. Army Reserve public affairs officer Brian Melanephy said in a statement.

In August, about 1,200 soldiers with the 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team left for training at Fort Hood. The unit is scheduled to be deployed to the Middle East later this month. This is the second combat deployment for the 100th Battalion.

The brigade is made up of soldiers from Hawai'i, Arizona, American Samoa, Guam and Saipan.
