UH med school wins $10.5M grant for health research at Biogenesis institute

Advertiser Staff

The Institute for Biogenesis Research at the John A. Burns School of Medicine is receiving a $10.5 million award from the National Institutes of Health, which today announced it is providing up to $55 million in new awards nationally to foster health-related research and increased competitiveness.

The award announced today is one of five Institutional Development Awards made across the country. The money is to be used to build and strengthen research through additional staffing and new equipment, along with supporting faculty and students. It also is intended to promote collaboration among researchers with complementary backgrounds.

The money will be used to transform the Institute for Biogenesis Research into a nationally competitive reproductive biology research center.

The Institute for Biogenesis Research was founded eight years ago and continues the work of Dr. Ryuzo Yanagimachi, one of the UH's most distinguished scientists. During his 40-year career Yanagimachi is credited as making significant advances in reproduction.
