Hawai'i author Darrin Gee has released his new book, "The Seven Personalities of Golf: Discover Your Inner Golfer to Play Your Best Game." The book was written to "help all golfers, professional and amateur alike, determine their own personality profiles, just like members of the Ryder Cup team."

The book identifies strengths and weaknesses of each personality and offers practical advice on how to use it for peak performance. It also tells how a golfer must periodically borrow traits from other personalities to create a more balanced game.

"Some golfers are naturally aggressive," Gee said. "However, at times, it may be more prudent to tone it down. For example, if you are leading the U.S. Open by one shot with one hole to go, there's no need to attempt heroic shots. Borrowing a more methodical approach might prove more successful."

The book provides descriptions of each personality profile and examples of professional and amateur golfers who fit in each group. A questionnaire at the end of each chapter helps the reader determine his or her own personality, along with exercises and illustrations to improve their game.

According to Gee, the seven distinct golf personalities are: Intimidator (Tiger Woods), Swashbuckler (Arnold Palmer), Gamesman (Lee Trevino), Methodologist (Nick Faldo), Steady Eddy (Tom Watson), Laid Back (Fred Couples), and Artist (Seve Ballesteros).

Gee's Spirit of Golf Academy, at Hapuna on the Big Island, was among Golf Magazine's "Twenty Other Top Golf Schools we Recommend" in the November issue. The Kapalua Golf Academy made the magazine's list of "Top 25 Golf Schools in America."

NOTES

Eight Hawai'i resorts and two public courses were honored with Golf World's inaugural "Readers' Choice Awards." The magazine listed its Top 50 private, public and resort destinations, "based solely on the input of Golf World readers." The top resort is Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina. Kapalua is sixth, Po'ipu Bay 16th, Kaua'i Lagoons 19th, Princeville 22nd, Mauna Lani 28th, Ko'ele 39th, Mauna Kea 41st and Wailea 50th. On the public side, Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Grand National Golf Club in Alabama was voted No. 1. Ko'olau was 33rd and Puakea 35th. Augusta National was the top-rated private course. Hawai'i was shut out in that category.

Oliver Oliquiano was promoted to Hawai'i Regional Director for Instruction for the Better Golf Academy for Kids this month. The academy also appointed Leon Harris head Instructor. The academy's Kids National After School at School Golf Enrichment Program is in elementary schools across the country, including O'ahu and Maui. The program's six-step formula was created by elementary school teachers and junior golf instructors. For information, contact Oliquiano at 896-7070 or bettergolfacademy@gmail.com.
