Ocean Safety officials have posted signs advising people to stay out of the water at Kailua Beach Park, Bellows Beach and Lanikai Beach due to a shark sighting this afternoon.

Officials said a crew aboard a Honolulu Fire Department helicopter spotted an 8-foot shark displaying aggressive behavior in the area of Kalama Beach Park.

The helicopter was in the air because of the find of intestinal remains at Kalama Beach Park about 3:30 p.m. There were also reports of a body in the water, but those have not been confirmed.

It is not known if the remains are human or animal, and the city office of the Medical Examiner was called to the scene to retrieve the remains and will determine their origin.

HFD spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said there are no signs of a shark attack.

Lifeguards cleared the beaches by going into the water on personal watercraft and asking swimmers to come in. Signs remain on the beach.
