Big Island Mayor Harry Kim has been moved from the intensive care unit of The Queen's Medical center to the hospital's cardiac unit after under going triple bypass surgery on Sunday, according to family members.
Kim, 69, underwent the bypass surgery after suffering a heart attack on Sept. 11. The heart attack was Kim's third in recent years.
The mayor's son, Garrett Kim, said the move to the cardiac unit was right on schedule. The mayor "continues to recover and he's in good spirits," Garrett Kim said in a written statement released today.
Harry Kim is expected to remain in the cardiac unit in Honolulu for several days. To help him rest, the family has requested no visitors or telephone calls until Kim leaves Queen's. The family also said the hospital cardiac unit does not allow flowers.
