An 18-year-old man was arraigned today at Circuit Court for allegedly causing $14,000 in damages to a Wai'anae area fast-food restaurant and vehicle last week.
Trial for Thomas Matias Jr., accused of second- and fourth-degree criminal property damage, is scheduled to start on Nov. 24. Matias is being held in lieu of $11,000 bail at the O'ahu Community Correctional Center. Prosecutors charged him by information Wednesday, bypassing the initial appearance/preliminary hearing route to determine probable cause for a non-warrant arrest.
Matias was denied service as a walk-up at drive-through window at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday and allegedly used a baseball bat to damage a restaurant window, menu board and closed-circuit television menu confirmation screen as well as a vehicle. He was arrested about an hour after the incident and identified as a suspect by surveillance video.
