Threat, firearms charges result in 10-year sentence
A 32-year-old Hilo man was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison on firearms and terroristic threatening charges.
Hawai'i County prosecutor Jay Kimura said Jones Henry Martin was arrested in August 2008 after his girlfriend told police that Martin had threatened to shoot her.
Martin, who had previously been found guilty of felony burglary, was found to be in possession of a .22-caliber rifle and several rounds of ammunition. As a convicted felon, Martin cannot own a firearm.
On Feb. 25, 2009, Martin pleaded guilty to ownership of a prohibited firearm and terroristic threatening.
On Monday, Judge Greg Nakamura sentenced him to 10 years with a two-year minimum before he is eligible for parole.
