Kamehameha junior catcher Christian Keanu Carmichael has verbally committed to play for the University of Hawai'i.
The 5-foot-10, 184-pound Carmichael is the second high school junior to commit early to UH. Earlier, Campbell junior pitcher Charles Ka'alekahi said he would play for UH.
"I feel it's a strong program," Carmichael said. "I like the coaches."
Carmichael added it would be easier for his parents to see him play.
The earliest the juniors can sign letters of intent is November, or the fall semester of their senior year.
If the early offers are an indication of their potential, then perhaps the two juniors will have the impact of UH freshman center fielder Kolten Wong, who has started all 25 games this season. He verbally committed to UH as a junior while at Kamehameha-Hawai'i.
Hawai'i has already signed four high school seniors: 'Iolani outfielder Breland Almadova, Kaua'i infielder/pitcher Trent Allianic, Kamehameha shortstop Pi'ikea Kitamura and Pearl City third baseman Bryson Namba.
The Rainbows also signed two JC transfer pitchers. Randy Yard, a 6-foot right-hander, from Central Arizona JC. He was drafted out of Palm Desert (Calif.) High by the Atlanta Braves in 2007. Also, Nick Struck, a 6-foot right-hander from Mount Hood JC in Oregon.
