NFL: Colin Powell to throw 1st pitch at Bears opener

NEWARK, N.J. — Former Secretary of State Colin Powell will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Newark Bears' home opener next month.
The Bears open their home schedule in the independent Atlantic League on Friday, May 1. Powell will throw out the first pitch and Grammy-winning singer Patti LaBelle will perform the national anthem.
The team also plans to invite retired major league stars to participate in Sunday home games during the season. Former New York Yankee first baseman Tino Martinez will attend and sign autographs at the Bears' game on Sunday, May 3.
The Bears will be managed by seven-time National League All-Star Tim Raines.
