All invited to diabetes workshops

The invitation is as all-encompassing as it gets.
Taking Control of Your Diabetes, a day-long educational conference Saturday at the Hawai'i Convention Center, encourages attendance by those with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, people who live with someone who has diabetes, parents of children with diabetes, and anyone at risk for the disease.
In Hawai'i, where the local American Diabetes Association branch estimates that 110,000 people either knowingly or unknowingly have the disease, that invitee list could theoretically stretch into several hundred thousands.
"It's a great opportunity, sort of like an all-day mini-camp," said ADA executive director Majken Mechling. "There's so much information packed into a single day that it's very worth it for people to educate themselves about the disease, how to prevent it, or how to live well with it."
The event features workshops, screenings, and classes led by physicians and diabetes educators.
Olympic track and field champion Billy Mills will also speak.
On-site registration is $30.
