Both Hawai'i tennis teams open their Western Athletic Conference seasons tomorrow on the road. The men are No. 63 in the Campbell's/ITA ranking. They play at No. 40 Fresno State in a rematch of last year's WAC Championship, won by the 'Bows.

UH will also play Idaho and Utah State in Fresno.

Hawai'i (3-6) leaped 16 spots, to No. 59, in the March 17 rankings after going 1-2 at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic, with a win over No. 56 Middle Tennessee. After an idle week, UH dropped four spots.

Dennis Lajola, a sophomore from 'Aiea, is ranked No. 93 in singles. He leads the team with an 11-7 singles record, mainly at No. 1. Senior Sascha Heinemann has won his last three singles matches and is 10-7.

Boise State is the WAC's top-ranked team at No. 23. The 'Bows face the Broncos in Idaho after playing at sixth-ranked USC. They also face New Mexico State and No. 61 Nevada in Boise.

The Rainbow Wahine's roller-coaster season continues on the WAC road this week. Hawai'i plays No. 38 Boise State and Louisiana Tech tomorrow and Utah State Saturday, all in Idaho. UH finishes its trip at No. 56 Nevada Monday and San Jose State Tuesday.

After a seasonlong five-match win streak, the Rainbow Wahine (8-9) have lost four of their last five, with all four losses coming against ranked teams and the win against Cal Poly.

Junior Sophie Kobuch has won her last three singles matches and leads the team with a 13-9 overall record. Kobuch, who was playing No. 1, is 3-0 on the No. 2 court since freshman Ellen Linsenbolz became eligible last week. Linsenbolz vaulted to the No. 1 spot in her second match and got her first collegiate win against No. 103 Leigh Finnegan of Illinois.

Fresno State is the highest ranked team in the WAC at No. 14. The Rainbow Wahine play the Bulldogs April 17, followed by WAC matches against Idaho and New Mexico State. All three will be in Las Cruces, N.M.

Hawai'i hosts the WAC women's and men's championships April 23 to 26.
