Jayson Kramer pitched eight shutout innings and Hawai'i beat San Jose State, 3-0, tonight in the Western Athletic Conference season opener before 2,597 at Les Murakami Stadium.

Kramer (2-3) allowed six hits and two walks with two strikeouts for the Rainbows (17-9 overall, 1-0 WAC). Lenny Linsky allowed a walk and a ground-rule double in a scoreless ninth for his first save.

David Berner (5-1) allowed three runs and seven hits in eight innings for the Spartans (19-6, 0-1).

Greg Garcia led off the fourth with a triple to right. Against a drawn-in infield, Ryan Morford grounded a single to the hole past second baseman Craig Hertler to score Garcia to put the Rainbows ahead, 1-0. Vinnie Catricala flied out to right and Kevin Macdonald grounded to short for an inning-ending double play.

Hawai'i cushioned its lead in the seventh. Morford led off with a single to right-center and Catricala smacked his fourth home run of the season to increase UH's lead to 3-0.
