Aquarium, city offer ways to celebrate

Earth Day is coming up, and Waikiki Aquarium and the City & County of Honolulu are getting a jump on the action.

Go to the Earth Month Web pages on the city's Clean Water Web site — www.cleanwaterhonolulu.com/storm/news/earth _month_2009.html — to learn about water pollution prevention information, volunteer or report illegal discharges or dumping.

Look for the Hawai'i Backyard Conservation supplement in The Advertiser on Wednesday, for tips on conserving and improving natural resources in your backyard.

In celebration of Earth Day, the Waikiki Aquarium hosts a free Mauka to Makai Environmental Expo, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The expo will showcase the efforts of city, state and federal agencies to preserve and protect Hawai'i's environment, with an emphasis on the Islands' unique water resources.

Family-friendly activities will include picture-taking with Apoha the 'o'opu, water pollution prevention games, arts and crafts, and storytelling about Hawai'i's environment; www.waquarium.org.
