Hilo sweeps in baseball

Clayton Uyechi fired a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and T.J. Pilla drove in three runs as Hawai'i-Hilo beat Dixie State, 6-1, to sweep a Pacific West Conference baseball doubleheader yesterday at Wong Stadium.
Uyechi (4-1) pitched seven innings and allowed one run and three walks against Dixie State (22-16, 9-7).
Keoni Manago added three hits for the Vulcans (17-15, 8-10 PWC).
In the first game, Peter Rodgers' two-run single spiced a five-run third inning as UH-Hilo rallied past the Red Storm, 10-7.
Rodgers finished 2 for 3 with four RBIs.
TRIBUTE
CARTWRIGHT HONORED
The Alexander Joy Cartwright Ceremony will be held Friday, at 11 a.m., at Oahu Cemetery.
The ceremony will be followed by a no-host lunch at Murphy's Bar & Grill on Merchant Street.
Cartwright wrote most of the rules of baseball and introduced the sport to Hawai'i in the 1800s.
