ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Tin Cup Chalice, the first horse to sweep the OTB Big Apple Triple for 3-year-olds bred in New York, has been euthanized after a training accident in western New York.

The gelding was jogging near the outside fence at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack on Friday when it collided with another horse that bolted. Jockey Pedro Rodriguez was hospitalized for injuries not believed to be serious. Both horses were destroyed.

In August, Tin Cup Chalice won the $150,000 Albany Stakes for 3-year-olds bred in New York by a head at Saratoga Race Course. It was the first sweep of the Big Apple Triple, a series restricted to New York-breds that includes the Mike Lee Handicap at Belmont Park and the New York Derby at Finger Lakes.
