Local actor Randall Duk Kim, last heard as Master Oogway in the animated "Kung Fu Panda," appears as Grandpa Gohan in the new "Dragonball: Evolution," now on screens. Theatergoers know him best as a classical actor, one of the first Asians to portray leads in Shakespearean plays ("Hamlet"), but he's landed in pop culture films such as "The Matrix Reloaded" and an earlier Broadway revival of "The King and I." ...
Speaking of a film-and-theater localite: after mentioning Jason Tam in "Every Little Step" last Sunday, Consolidated said that the movie has a July 10 playdate at Kahala. Better late than never. ...

But hold on DeLima and Augie aren't forgetting the dads. Check Frankie out at 7:30 p.m. June 21 at Dot's in Wahiawa, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. for dinner (622-4115). ... CLUBLICITY: Kit Samson's smooth piano serenades Fridays at Aria Restaurant were short-lived, due to the slow economy. Further, Aria has cut back its dinner service open only Thursdays through Saturdays. ...
Kani Ka Pila Grille at the Outrigger Reef on the Beach continues to attract guest sit-ins. Grammy winner Daniel Ho joined Kawika Kahiapo and Martin Pahinui this past Thursday night; and when Cyril Pahinui celebrates his birthday at his Wednesday night gig, Ledward Ka'apana will lead the roster of notable sit-ins. Music unfolds from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. daily. ...
TRADE WINDS: It was frantic last Sunday for songstress-actress Shari Lynn, who donned her false lashes by 10 a.m. to perform (with accompanist Don Conover) at a Jo Pruden tribute aboard the NCL cruise ship Zaandam. Folks like Grace Bell Humerickhouse, Lorna and John Mount, Kathe James, Ken Kantor, CoCo Weil, Lina Doo and Bill Petty attended. Jo's husband Jip shared a 40-minute video tribute, compacting Jo's vast career, from TV's "Hawaii Five-O" and "Magnum P.I." to scores of stage plays. ...
"It was touching, revealing (she looks great as a brunette) and thrilling," said Shari. "All I wanted to do was run to the theater and be a better actor it was so inspiring." She closed her 20-minute serenade with an apt "Quiet Please, There's an Actor on Stage," then dashed to her 3 p.m. warmup at Diamond Head Theatre for the final performance of "Gypsy." Long day, since the closing night party was held at P.F Chang's, arranged by co-star Candes Meijide Gentry and her mom, Condesa Azria Nora Meijide Gentry. Shari got to eat egg rolls ("I was dying for some") after she served them as Mama Rose on stage, five times a week for the past three weeks. ...
CHATTER: When Carol Kiyan took in daughter Kaitlin Kiyan's opening night of "Hair" at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York, actor Jason Tam ("A Chorus Line," "Every Little Step") sat next to her. According to Paul Kiyan, Kaitlin's dad, "She is having a blast living her dream." And locals are taking in the "Hair" revival. ...
