Flash flood watch remains in effect for all islands

A flash flood watch issued by the National Weather Service will remain in effect for all islands from noon today through tomorrow afternoon.

Unstable atmospheric conditions are expected to develop across the state today, forecasters said.

Ths instability, combined with abundant low-level moisture, may produce locally heavy rainfall beginning this afternoon and continuing through tonight.

Light to moderate northeasterly winds are expected to continue through this weekend, the weather service said.

A disturbance developing at higher elevations will likely significantly destabilize the atmosphere over the state by this afternoon and tonight, according to the forecast.

The threat of heavy showers will diminish this weekend as the upper level disturbance moves away.

Here's the outlook:

Today — Scattered showers, mainly before 7 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a high near 79. East wind between 10 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tonight — Showers likely, mainly after 7 p.m. Rain could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. North wind between 11 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tomorrow — Showers likely. Rain could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. North wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tomorrow night — Showers likely, mainly before 7 p.m. Rain could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Northeast wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday — Scattered showers. Rain could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Northeast wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday night — Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Northeast wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
